Prostatectomy – Niramayaa Superspeciality Hospital
The prostate is a small gland, but problems affecting it can have a big impact on a man’s health and quality of life. As men age, the prostate may become enlarged and block urine flow, or, in some cases, develop cancer. When medicines or less invasive procedures are not enough, prostatectomy, the surgical removal of part or all of the prostate, may be the most effective treatment.
At Niramayaa Superspeciality Hospital, our experienced urologists perform prostatectomy using open and minimally invasive techniques, with a strong focus on effective treatment, safety, and preserving urinary control and sexual function wherever possible.

FAQ’s
What is the difference between TURP and simple prostatectomy?
TURP removes prostate tissue through the urinary passage without any cuts and is suitable for small to moderately enlarged prostates. Simple prostatectomy is used for very large prostates where TURP may not be effective or safe.
Is prostatectomy the only treatment for prostate cancer?
No. Treatment options include active surveillance, surgery, radiation therapy, and hormonal therapy, depending on the stage and aggressiveness of the cancer and your overall health. Your doctor will discuss all options with you.
Will I lose bladder control after surgery?
Some urinary leakage is common initially, especially after radical prostatectomy, but most men regain good control over weeks to months with pelvic floor exercises.
Will prostatectomy affect my sex life?
Simple prostatectomy usually has little effect on erections. Radical prostatectomy can affect erectile function, but nerve-sparing techniques and rehabilitation help many men recover over time.
How long will I need a catheter?
Usually one to two weeks, depending on the type of surgery.
