    Urethroplasty – Niramayaa Superspeciality Hospital

Passing urine is something most people never think twice about, until it becomes difficult. A urethral stricture, or narrowing of the urine passage, can make urination slow, painful, and frustrating. Over time, it can lead to repeated urinary infections, bladder damage, and even kidney problems.

Many patients with stricture undergo repeated dilations or minor procedures, only for the narrowing to return again and again. Urethroplasty is a specialised reconstructive surgery that offers a long-term, durable solution by repairing or rebuilding the narrowed part of the urethra.

At Niramayaa Superspeciality Hospital, our experienced urologists perform urethroplasty using modern reconstructive techniques, helping patients regain a strong, free urine flow and freedom from repeated procedures.

    FAQ’s

Is urethroplasty better than repeated dilation or urethrotomy?
For long or recurrent strictures, urethroplasty offers much better long-term success. Repeated dilations and urethrotomies often provide only temporary relief and can make the stricture longer and more complex over time.
    Is urethroplasty painful?
The surgery is performed under anaesthesia, so you will not feel pain during the procedure. Post-operative discomfort is managed with medicines.
Will taking a graft from my cheek affect eating or speaking?
The cheek heals well, usually within two to three weeks. Mild discomfort or tightness may occur initially, but long-term problems with eating or speaking are uncommon.
How long will I need the catheter?
aUsually two to three weeks, depending on the type of repair.
Can a stricture come back after urethroplasty?
Recurrence is less common after urethroplasty than after dilation or urethrotomy. Regular follow-up helps detect any narrowing early.
